Apparently, I’m an information gatherer. Surely there’s someone out there, who’s figured this out—who knows the very best way to do it. I better search for that best approach.
Who knows what sparked that first move? Maybe I was procrastinating on the next phase of the ongoing sewing projects. Maybe I wanted the light from the window to be over my shoulder instead of behind my back.
There’s a period of time for muddling through and wondering if you’ll ever get it. And then, at some magical point, it all makes sense. When it makes sense, it suddenly seems simple and obvious. How could I not see that before?
So, here’s my invitation to you. Find some time to play. With whatever medium appeals to you. Maybe it’s fabric or fiber; maybe it’s clay; maybe it’s music or gardening. Have some fun, and remind yourself that it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Sometimes, with new clarity and insight, the next steps become clear—perhaps even unexpectedly obvious.
It’s even more interesting to help them navigate their frustrations. This is also known as asking them not to whine, to find a nicer way to ask for what they want.
Sometimes it’s an easy fix: change a setting, switch to a different presser foot, rethread the machine. Other times it’s a total mystery. What did I do wrong this time?
The weather was perfect, the setting was beautiful, and the gathering of friends and family was beyond heartwarming. I don’t have enough words!
The looming deadline is fast approaching, and today got away from me.The sewing project is coming along nicely, especially with a little help from some of my favorite people.
The figuring out is based on previous expertise, a fair amount of research (online searches, videos, books, knowledgeable friends), and lots of thinking things through.
