Getting Started

Dear Reader,

I wish I knew what it is that turns on my “start button.” The thing that makes me go from, “That’s a nice idea,” to actually starting. I’ve been talking about rearranging my sewing space—okay, clearing out, decluttering and rearranging it—for quite a while now. I started yesterday. I moved the table, which necessitated moving some boxes, and then some chairs, and then, some stuff on the walls…

My schedule didn’t allow for me to do much more than get started. But I have some serious sewing projects in mind and it would be so much nicer to do them in a space that feels new and fresh. So I started. And I expect I’ll keep going.

Who knows what sparked that first move? Maybe I was procrastinating on the next phase of the ongoing sewing projects. Maybe I wanted the light from the window to be over my shoulder instead of behind my back. Maybe there’s not a magic place or time to start. Something in the back of my mind works and works on the idea, until I just go ahead and do it.

If you know where the secret start button is, please share! Otherwise, I’ll just keep on muddling along, and periodically starting up the next great idea.

A few years ago, I *started* teaching a weekly Awareness Through Movement class in person on Tuesdays. When the pandemic happened, we moved the class to Zoom and it’s still going. And it’s still Free/Pay as You Wish. You can sign up here, Tuesday Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson.

About three times a year, I’ve been teaching felt-making workshops and Feldenkrais Mini-Retreats at the Jung Center of Houston. More details:

Felting a New Story is Friday afternoon, July 18.

Unlock Your Neck and Shoulders is Friday afternoon, July 25.

Whatever you’re starting, or thinking about starting, Have all the fun you can!
