Gently Down the Stream

Dear Reader,

“Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream.” I don’t remember when I first heard this song. I do remember trying to sing along in the round—hoping my voice didn’t stand out, because I was often on the wrong note.

The song changed for me when my friend Marilyn suggested it as a metaphor for life. I suppose it’s not surprising that it should be a metaphor. “…gently down the stream. Life is but a dream.” Duh.

How nice it is when we learn to row gently! Not to work harder than necessary. To allow the stream to carry us along; maybe even pause completely and just float.

How often we work so much harder than we need to! Exhausting ourselves; working against the current even when it’s unnecessary.

Part of the magic of coaching and Feldenkrais is that they help us to feel the current, to relax the effort and just float for a while. It’s delicious. Maybe even how we’re meant to be. At least some of the time. Or perhaps, most of the time. And, I suspect, when we’re floating, it’s contagious, and life gets better for those around us also.

Please join me in learning how to float.

Tuesday is our weekly online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson. It’s Free/Pay as You Wish.

If you’d like to work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment, or reply to this email and let me know what interests you.

Mark your calendars for two in-person classes at the Jung Center of Houston: a felting workshop on Friday afternoon, July 18; and a Feldenkrais Mini-retreat on Friday afternoon, July 25. I’ll post more details soon.

Have all the fun you can.
