Winter Road Trips

December 20, 2021/0 Comments/in Awareness Through Movement, Feldenkrais Method, Weekly Newsletter /by Gika Rector

The article below was featured in my December 20, 2021, e‑mail newsletter. To subscribe to the newsletter, please use my contact form.

Dear Reader,

Apparently, ’tis the season for road trips and amazing sunsets. We’ve been going back and forth between The Woodlands and Austin, Texas. We are now, beyond the shadow of a doubt, empty nesters. All three of our children have lived independently for many years, and now, they all live about two and a half hours away.

So, we’ve hit the road, to help with moving, visit kids and grandkids, and to celebrate holidays. It works out especially nice that my husband likes to drive, and I can knit or spin or snooze. Or watch a beautiful sunset.

This also seems to be a season of ups and downs. It’s delightful to celebrate with friends and family. And it’s dark times for some. A dear friend is leaving town to attend three separate funerals. Some friends are facing serious health issues, and others are stressed at work. Sometimes it’s just too much. And yet there are the lovely moments. A shared meal, laughter, the sparkle in a child’s eyes, the magical moment when you arrive without notice and the kid exclaims with delight, “Grandma!”

My wish for you is that the contrast between light and dark, joy and sorrow, sadness and delight, enriches your experience. I hope that when you light a candle, connect with a friend or loved one, that the light, joy and delight shine ever more brightly.

This weekly newsletter probably won’t happen next Monday—another road trip—and please note that I’m not teaching my weekly online classes again until February. Watch for details about a hybrid (in-person and online) Feldenkrais “non-intensive intensive” through the Jung Center of Houston in mid-February. In the meantime, I’m available for private lessons. Reply to this email, and we can chat about how it works.

Wishing you Happy Holidays and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
