Ready or Not

Dear Reader,

A few weeks ago, my middle kid started talking about holiday plans. It seemed a bit early to be going into details. Yesterday, I noticed that one of our neighbors had their holiday lights all set up—and turned on! It seemed way too early. We still have leftover Halloween candy.

Guess what. It’s probably not too early. Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have already happened, and Diwali as well. It’s just that every year, the holidays come faster and faster.

Ready or not, here it is—the season of shopping and gathering, anticipating good times and not so easy times. Sound familiar?

The good news is that so many of our fall and winter holidays bring light into our dark season. It’s a season of so many mixed feelings. The joy of being with people we love; the sadness of missing those who can’t be with us; the contrast between the idealized holiday images and what we really experience.

Our daily lives are full of these contrasts, and somehow the holiday season brings it all into sharper focus.

Whether you’re ready or not, I hope you’ll find some moments of peace and joy, find ways to be kind to yourself and others, find light in the darkness.

I’m planning a short series to explore how we can invite joy into this holiday season. The series will be two small-group sessions and one private session. Each session will include time for conversation, contemplation and movement. Registration will open later this week.

In the meantime, here’s what’s already available:

Every Tuesday, with rare exceptions, we have our online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, and it’s still Free/Pay as You Wish.

In person at the Jung Center of Houston, another Feldenkrais Mini-Retreat: Moving From the Heart, on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2024.

Also in person at the Jung Center of Houston, on Saturday afternoon, November 23, 2024, Creating a New Cloth: Nuno Felt Technique. This one is always fun, and sometimes surprising.

If you’d like to work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment for a Feldenkrais or Coaching session, or for a free consult. You can even set up a time for a private, or semi-private felting session. Or you can simply reply to this email and let me know what’s most interesting to you.

Have all the fun you can!
