Making Stuff Fun

Dear Reader,

I’ve been on a mission lately. I have a home project that’s been taking up a lot of my time and energy. To be honest, I’m already a bit bored with it, but I’m determined to persevere. Yet, every now and then I need a break. So, I’ve been making stuff. I’ve been doing a bit of knitting and sewing. I’ve even puttered around with some potted plants.

It’s surprising to me—even after many years of making stuff—how much better I feel, how much more energy I have, when I take time to make stuff. We humans have an extraordinary proportion of our brain power allocated to our hands. Maybe that’s why making—using our hands to transform materials—is not only satisfying, but essential to who we are.

As you probably know, one of my favorite things to make is felt. Wool fibers, soap and water, a bit of elbow grease, and, Voila!, you have an object. Colorful, soft, delightful to make and to hold—and maybe even useful.

I’d love for you to join me this Friday afternoon at the Jung Center of Houston, to make some felt. We’ll make tiny felt vessels. They can be bowls or little bags, or even spheres. They can hold tiny treasures or big dreams. One of the best things about it is that no experience, skills or talents are required. Just a willingness to play with some fiber.

Here’s where you can register: Tiny Felt Vessels (In Person) You don’t need to bring anything except yourself, and maybe a bit of curiosity. If you’re interested, please register as soon as possible. It’s only a few days away.

In the meantime, our usual Tuesday midday Feldenrkais Awareness Through Movement lesson is online, and it’s fun and refreshing in a totally different way. It’s Free/Pay as You Wish.

Another in-person experience is our Feldenkrais Mini-retreat, also at the Jung Center of Houston. It’s on Friday afternoon, October 3. Here’s the link for registration: Breathing Room: A Feldenkrais Mini-retreat

Whether you’re online, in person, or out in the world somewhere, have all the fun you can!
