Road Trip

Dear Reader,

It’s been a long, hot summer here in Texas. It’s starting to shift; the high temperatures aren’t quite as high, and the mornings are just enough cooler that it’s not too bad to take a walk.

Please note that this comment about “cooler” is relative. If you’re from somewhere where it’s really cooler, don’t come down here and go for a walk just yet. Wait a few weeks, and it should be just fine. Or maybe come in February or March, when you’re completely over the cold, grey days.

For various, not particularly dramatic, reasons, it’s also been a stressful summer. Some of the stressors are related to good things, and some aren’t so good. Some are petty; some are significant. Mostly, it’s life, which comes with good and bad, easy and not so easy.

Every now and then—perhaps after a long, hot summer—you just gotta get away and do something just for fun. And that’s what I’m about to do. I’m going on a road trip with a few of my favorite people. Going to a beautiful part of the country, and paying attention to some of my favorite things—like spinning, weaving, and knitting.I’m curious about how things will look when I come back home. It’s likely to still be warm, and many things will be as I left them. My hope is that my travel buddies and I will come back with fresh eyes, new ideas, and renewed energy. My hope for you is that you also might find renewal—whether you’re staying close to home or getting away.

In the meantime, we’ll have our usual Tuesday online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement class this week (October 3) but no class on October 10.

There’s still room in the Unlocking the Rib Cage mini-retreat at the Jung Center of Houston on Saturday afternoon, October 28. The Jung Center of Houston is one of those little known treasures in this remarkable city. It’s a great place for learning and renewal.

I’ve also scheduled a new series of lessons: Finding Freedom and Comfort in Your Own Body. It’s a three-lesson series that will also include a private session. The lessons will be online, Wednesday evenings, November 1, 8, and 15. The private session will be the participant’s choice: Feldenkrais lesson or coaching, in person or online. Participants will be provided access to an audio recording of each lesson, in case they need to miss a session or would like to refresh their experience of the lesson.
