June 22, 2026/in Awareness Through Movement, Feldenkrais Method, Weekly Newsletter /by Gika Rector

The article below was featured in my June 22, 2026, e‑mail newsletter. To subscribe to the newsletter, please use my contact form.

Dear Reader,

There’s always more to learn. That’s the good news and the bad news. Bad news, because I always wonder what I’m missing, what I might not know that would be extra helpful. Good news because it keeps life interesting. And, for sure, I don’t want to be bored.

This past weekend, I attended a Feldenkrais Advanced Training workshop with Ellen Soloway. Lucky me! Ellen is the most broadly experienced Feldenkrais practitioner I know. She studied directly with Moshe Feldenkrais, and many of his early colleagues. Her private practice is long standing, diverse and impressive—from children with special needs to highly skilled performers and athletes.

And, Ellen loves to teach other practitioners, sharing the legacy of those who taught her and her own unique insights and skills.

It’s such a delight to work with and learn from people who love what they do. At the end of the weekend, I looked at the delight on Ellen’s face. I knew she was tired, but it didn’t show. She was bright-eyed and smiling, delighting in the work she had shared and the responses of those of us lucky enough to participate.

Watch for those people in your life. The ones who delight in their work; who are responsive and generous in their sharing. You won’t regret it.

And now, I’m going to go away for a few days, spend time with some of my favorite people in a place I love. Here’s hoping that the change of pace will give my brain the time and space to let what I learned sink in.

Reminder: our weekly Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons are on hold until Tuesday, August 18.

In the meantime, if you’d like to work with me privately—Feldenkrais, coaching, or felt-making—you can Book an Appointment and we can talk about what you’re most interested in. Or you can reply to this email, and we’ll set up a time to chat.

Watch for details: I’ll be teaching an in-person Feldenkrais mini-retreat and a felt-making workshop—both at the Jung Center of Houston, this fall.
