Learning and Doing

Dear Reader,
Learning is not the same as doing. I love taking classes and reading books. It’s so inspiring to take in new ideas and information, to explore new possibilities. Over the years I’ve taken a lot of classes and workshops—weaving, spinning, felt-making, sewing, pattern drafting, Feldenkrais, coaching… You get the idea.
Every now and then, I run out of new classes to take in a particular subject. Not because there aren’t more classes out there. Rather, it’s because, I can’t take in any more information, until I actually do something with what I’ve learned.
I’m still tempted, mind you, but I’m more interested in playing with what I’ve learned. There are usually moments when I wonder if I know enough to do what I want with the knowledge, but eventually, I gotta just go for it.
It’s also become clear that I’ll never learn it all or do it all perfectly. The more I realize that, the easier it is to go ahead and do. Weave the cloth. Knit the sweater—and unknit as necessary. Plant the seeds. Share the ideas. And keep on keeping on. Letting go of the need to do or be perfect—a whole other lesson.
And, by the way, it becomes a lot more fun along the way—mostly anyway.
One of the things I love about my work is that there’s always more to learn, and more to share. Perhaps you’d like to join me in this adventure.
Our Tuesday online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is Free/Pay as You Wish. It’s all about learning and doing—and seeing how it changes other things in your life.
And if you’d like to know more or schedule a private session, you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email to let me know what you’re interested in.
Have all the fun you can!
