In Person

Dear Reader,

Right about this time, six years ago, the world seemed to shut down, as people hunkered down in response to the Covid Epidemic. I remember hearing about a virus making its way around. I went to an in-person event with a friend. She wouldn’t hug or shake hands with anyone, and used her elbow to touch the elevator buttons.

Here in this part of Texas, I knew it was really serious, when the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo got cancelled. It’s a huge event, and that was a very big deal.

That’s when I moved my weekly Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement class to Zoom. It worked out okay. In fact, people from around the country—and even across the ocean—participated.

We found ways to meet friends and family, without being in close quarters. I’ve always liked my front porch, and especially appreciated that it was deep enough to set up tables and host a small group of family or friends for meals.

Now, I’m finding how nice it is to meet with family, friends, and clients in person. It’s a different kind of connection, and I don’t want to take it for granted. My mom was from Germany, and lived here in the US for close to twenty years, before she got to go back and visit family. It’s hard for me to imagine what that would be like. Today, I had lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in quite a while. We made last-minute arrangements to meet, and it was great to catch up.

We can effectively do private Feldenkrais lessons online, but there’s something extra special about being in person, and having that direct contact.

As you probably know, we have newborn twins in our family, and I’ve had the luxury of spending time with them. There’s nothing quite like holding a sleeping—or squiggly—infant. Listening to their breath, feeling the softness of their skin, and looking into their eyes.

We humans need connection. We need touch. We need face to face interaction.

My suggestion is to notice if you’re getting enough of that. If not, look around for opportunities. If you are, enjoy—and maybe pay attention to folks you know who might need a bit more in-person connection.

All that said, our weekly online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is a lovely way to connect with yourself and your own body. It’s also a delightful way to share time with lovely folks you might not otherwise get to meet. It’s midday on Tuesdays, and it’s still Free/Pay as You Wish.

If you’d like to work with me privately, in person or online—Feldenkrais, coaching or felt-making—you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email and let me know what you’re interested in.

Online or in person, have all the fun you can!
