Dear Reader,
Yesterday, I went from The Woodlands to Houston, by way of LaGrange. Living in the greater Houston metropolitan area, it’s not unusual to drive many miles in a single day. On this particular day, I drove 81 miles to deliver hand knit fingerless mitts to my daughters and two of my granddaughters. From there, it was 108 miles to Houston, and another 35 miles back to The Woodlands.
It seemed like a silly thing to do. I could have put the mitts in the mail. But I’d just finished them and the cold weather was starting. Here in this part of Texas, the cold doesn’t last very long—at least not usually. I wanted these little mitts to be useful, before the wether turned or the mittens got lost—whichever might come first.
Besides, I got to spend an hour with 4 of my favorite people, and that’s never a bad idea. From La Grange, I drove to Houston, where I spent some time with a few of my favorite clients, doing private Feldenkrais lessons. Again, that’s never a bad idea.
Aside from all that, I got to drive on country roads on a bright, sunny day, without a cloud in the sky. My dad used to take my brothers and me for “Sunday drives.” Probably this was to give my mom a break, but it was nice to go out and about, just because.
Life isn’t always easy. How’s that for an understatement? Sometimes it’s worth it to go out of your way; take a large detour; to spend time with important people; take a drive in the country; do something impractical. Just because.
Coming up:
