Deep Listening

Dear Reader,

How well do we listen? Often in Feldenkrais lessons, I invite participants to listen to particular aspects of their bodies. If you take it literally, it’s an odd way to pay attention to kinesthetic experiences. And, it’s also richly beneficial.

In coaching, my clients and I listen to the stories we tell ourselves, and if we’re attentive enough, we hear the story behind the story.

In felt-making, we listen to the wool fibers and to what might emerge from the work of our hands. Did you hear me when I said that it’s magical?

Valerie Johns does a lot of deep listening—to herself, to her clients, to her dreams. One of the things that has emerged from her listening is poetry. Her words are deeply resonant reflections of her experiences and the stories she’s heard. And, lucky for us, she’s got a new book in which she shares some of these stories. Her ebook, Ashes In the Milk, is currently available, and the Paperback is open for preorder. If you’re interested, please consider ordering that through your local independently owned bookstore. These stores are treasures in our communities.

I hope you’ll join me for some listening experiences:

For private sessions—Coaching, Feldenkrais, Coaching and Feldenkrais combined, or Felt-making—Book an Appointment, or reply to this email.

As usual, we have our Free/Pay as You Wish, Tuesday online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson. It’s a gentle way to explore listening to yourself through movement.

Whatever you’re hearing these days, have all the fun you can!
