Making Adjustments

Dear Reader,

Maybe life is a series of adjustments. Emerging from the womb, there’s more light, more noise, more stimulation. Maybe you’re well cared for and all your basic needs are met. Somewhere along the way, you don’t get what you need or want. Dang!

So, you make adjustments. Maybe you get angry. Maybe you play nice to see if that gets you somewhere. Maybe you pout. Probably, you try lots of different approaches, without even knowing that’s what you’re doing.

We get the idea that if we respond just right, we’ll get more of what we want—or at least, less of what we don’t want. So we keep aiming for just right.

And still, we get some of what we do want and some of what we don’t want. If we’re paying attention, we might just find ways to refine our approaches. To adjust to the situation at hand. To appreciate that even if we have a hammer—and we’re good at using it—not everything is a nail.

When my kids were little, I brought cheerios everywhere we went. Until that didn’t work. Then maybe it was raisins. Or juice boxes. Or just the right toys. It just kept changing.

When I was a kid, I thought I’d figure it all out by the time I was a grownup. You can guess how that turned out.

Thankfully, every now and then, you get to use the hammer. Or the raisins are just the thing. Or you have one of those “growth opportunities” and you learn a new set of skills.

It’s nice to have collaborators as we make adjustments. That’s one way of looking at the experiences I offer. Times set aside to look at refining our responses, moving more easily and being creative—developing more insight, new skills, and new ways to enjoy the process.

Here’s what’s currently available:

Our Tuesday online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is still Free/Pay as You Wish. By the way, it’s gentle, easy movements. You start with lying on your back, do some simple movements and take rests along the way. Participants report that it’s relaxing, helpful, restorative.

About three times a year, I’ve been teaching felt-making workshops and Feldenkrais Mini-Retreats at the Jung Center of Houston. More details:

Felting a New Story is Friday afternoon, July 18.

Unlock Your Neck and Shoulders is Friday afternoon, July 25.

If you’d like to work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email and let me know what you’re most curious about.

Whatever adjustments you’re making, have all the fun you can!
