Following My Curiosity

Dear Reader

Someone asked me recently how I got into this Feldenkrais work. Oddly enough, I found out about it through a fiber artist friend of mine. She said, “I have a friend who does this thing—I can’t remember what it’s called—but I think you’d like it.” She was right! I wonder how she knew that I would like it.

I met that particular fiber artist, because I was weaving and wanted to learn more about garment sewing techniques. A weaving friend directed me to a fiber artist who happened to be an excellent seamstress. I started taking a couture sewing class, and learned about the fiber artists group.

At a Feldenkrais workshop, I met a woman who was a business coach. I was trying to sort out what to do with my felt-making work, and so I engaged the coach. I quickly figured out I wanted to be a coach—a life coach. And now “I are one.”

I’m also a spinner—I spin fiber into yarn. Wanting to learn more about that, I went to a retreat. The spinning workshops were full, so I took a natural dyeing workshop. There I met a woman who was going to take a mask-making class. They were going to make the masks out of felt, and use wool around a beach ball? I stopped by the class, met the teacher briefly and was a bit intrigued. Somehow, I invited her to come teach a felt-making workshop for our weavers and spinners guild in Texas. She still teases me about not wanting to get too carried away by felt-making because it might take a way from my weaving and spinning. It did indeed. I’ve spent more time felting and teaching felt-making than weaving and spinning.

And recently, I’ve come back to spinning, and of course, knitting, and maybe even weaving.

And I also came across an anatomy class for Feldenkrais practitioners. So interesting!

What’s the point of all this meandering? It’s been such fun and so rewarding to follow my curiosity. Who knew that there would be some sort of connection between playing with fibers, coaching, and Feldenkrais? Perhaps the best part is the amazing people I’ve met along the way. Such talent and generosity, such wholehearted enthusiasm for life!

If you’re curious about any of this, please join me in class, book an appointment, or reply to this email to set up a time to talk.

I’m delighted to be back teaching our Tuesday and Thursday Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons, to be offering private sessions (in person or online), and to have both a Feldenkrais and a felt-making workshop scheduled at the Jung Center of Houston.

I hope you’ll join me soon.
