Hello Goodbye Hello

Dear Reader,

On my way out of town this past Friday, I said goodbye to a friend. I thought it might be my last time to see her and it was. She had cancer. She was a good patient. She did all the right things. But in the end, it was an aggressive form of cancer and it took her life.

She was a beautiful artist, woman, wife, mom, grandmother and friend. During her final days, she was surrounded by people who loved her deeply and whom she loved.

On the day she died, I was out of town, helping to do meal prep for a couple of expectant moms. In the midst of saying goodbye to a friend, we were preparing to welcome brand new lives into the world.

We don’t always do all the right things. But, even when we do, bad, painful stuff happens. And good stuff too.

I visited with an old friend. He has a lot of wisdom. A lot of wisdom. And, even he says that the art of living is a lifelong learning experience. We won’t ever get it all right.

I said this last week, and I’m gonna say it again now. We need to make stuff, and we need to spend time with real people in person. We surely won’t always get it right, but it’s part of being fully human. And what else is there for us to do here, but to be human.

By the way, I talked with someone else—who also has a lot of wisdom—who says she misses making stuff. But she thinks she needs to make useful stuff—for a purpose. I’m not sure that’s so very important. It’s a really good idea to just make stuff, just for the sake of making stuff. It’s a way of being. It might seem like it’s “doing,” but really it’s a way of being. Creating something through our own efforts is part of how we be humans. I hope that makes sense. If not, you can sit with it for a while. And if it still doesn’t make sense, it’s okay to let it go.

As we continue to live into this new year, I wish you grace and peace. And, of course, have all the fun you can!

Here’s what’s up:

Our weekly online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement isn’t in person, but it does bring a sense of doing something worthwhile, in the company of other humans. And, usually improves our breathing. And, it’s Free/Pay as You Wish.

For an in-person experience, I’m offering Lift Your Heart: A Feldenkrais Mini-Retreat on Saturday afternoon, February 28, at the Jung Center of Houston.

If you’d like to work with me privately, in person or online—Feldenkrais, coaching or felt-making—you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email and let me know what you’re interested in.
