Felting Fun

Dear Reader,

Some days you just gotta play. Make something out of a few simple materials. Maybe with unfamiliar materials and something you’ve never done before. I recently had the privilege of guiding a group of artists in felting to tell a story.

A word or phrase to begin with. Three layers of combed merino wool fibers, and then an optional layer of bright and shiny embellishment fibers. Wet the fibers, roll the whole thing in bubble wrap, and then work by hand. Not quite like the art table in a kindergarten classroom, but close enough—soap, water, colors, many hands making something new and different.

Part of the fun is the transformations along the way. As in life, things change, whether you want them to or not. You start with one idea, and new images and ideas emerge.

Not only did the wool fibers change, but ideas, thoughts and images emerged in surprising ways.

New possibilities. New skills. New expressions. Again, a bit like life. Take something unfamiliar; stay curious; be open to possibilities; let go of limiting expectations; and have some fun. See what emerges. Maybe something useful or beautiful or meaningful. Or maybe just another experience.

I’ll be teaching another felting workshop at the Jung Center of Houston, on Friday, July 18. If you’re interested, mark your calendar and watch for further details. I’m also teaching another Feldenkrais mini-retreat at the Jung Center on Friday, July 25.

In the meantime:

If you’d like to work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment, or reply to this email and let me know what interests you.

Tuesday is the day for our weekly online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is still Free Pay as You Wish.

Have all the fun you can!
