Listening for Silence

Dear Reader,

This is a noisy time. Not just because of the holidays, but also because of the news, social media, schedules—you know, the myriad urgent calls for our attention. Calls to multitask, fill our carts, empty our wallets.

Thomas Moore wrote a book called The Eloquence of Silence. I’m listening to it. It’s a lovely evocation of ideas about emptiness. Not just silence, but quiet. Time and space to be, to see if we can get comfortable with emptiness. Who knows what might emerge?

Here in the Northern Hemisphere, the days are still getting shorter. Less daylight is an invitation to slow down, be still, stay inside by the hearth, maybe even take a nap. If you find yourself feeling out of sorts, could it be related to feeling torn between our culture’s seasonal demands and nature’s seasonal invitations?

I hope you find some moments to slow down, listen to some quiet, and notice what emerges.

And, of course, you’re still welcome to join me for our weekly, online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement class on Tuesday. It’s another invitation to slow down, listen quietly to your own self, and see what emerges. (Please note, no class on December 26 or on January 2.)

To work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email.

If you happen to be in Houston and would like to play with some fiber, you can register for Felting Magic at Kani Kettu | Nordic Yarn. We’ll make some tiny felt vessels—great for small treasures. No talent or experience required!

Noisy or quiet, have all the fun you can.
