SUMMARY:Ankles\, Knees\, and Hips
DESCRIPTION:Whether you’re sitting\, standing\, walking or running\, you’ve got some major joints involved. And how they work makes all the difference between moving easily or feeling downright stuck. This four-session series of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons explores how we can improve the collaboration among the ankles\, knees\, and hips. None of these major joints moves in isolation\, and as we refine or improve one\, they all start to move better. \nNo matter where you begin\, paying attention to these joints can do you good and help you too. \nSchedule\nFour Thursdays: April 7\, 14\, 21\, and 28\, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nLocation\nOnline via Zoom \nTuition\n$100 for the four-class series. You must register by April 6. \n\nParticipants will be provided access to an audio recording of each lesson\, in case they need to miss a session or would like to refresh their experience of the lesson.\n\nRegister\n[scheduling site=”https://gikarector.as.me/ankles-knees-hips-22-04″]\nDisclaimer: We assume no responsibility for personal injury or property damage sustained by or through the use of our services or participation in our lessons and workshops. SUMMARY:Fingers and Ribs
DESCRIPTION:From fingertips to ribs and back again. We use our hands every single day\, for tasks big and small. And sometimes they get tired\, if not downright painful. \nIn studying the Feldenkrais Method\, I keep learning about the relationship of the fingers and the ribs. There’s a lot that comes between the fingers and the ribs\, and maybe that’s part of the problem we experience when we “overuse” our fingers. \nIn this four-session series of Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons\, we’ll explore what our fingers have to do with our ribs\, and vice versa. And along the way\, along the length of our arms\, perhaps find a little less effort and a little more ease. \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. Willingness to lie on the floor\, and an interest in moving more easily are all you need. \nSchedule\nFour Thursdays: February 3\, 10\, 17\, and 24\, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nLocation\nOnline via Zoom \nTuition\n$100 for the four-class series. SUMMARY:Breathing Through the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:If you’re going to make it through the holidays\, you’re going to have to breathe—inhale and exhale\, perhaps with pauses along the way. \nEspecially during this season\, the rhythm of our breath is a beautiful metaphor for the opening and closing through which we move—from light to dark to light\, giving and receiving\, going out and staying in. And it’s more than a metaphor. How we breathe affects everything we do. \nIn this three-session course\, we’ll explore this natural and universal process. As if by magic\, we find that the breath gets easier and more efficient\, and so do our other ways of moving. Flexing and extending\, lifting and lowering\, reaching and withdrawing—it all starts to get easier and more graceful. \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. Willingness to lie on the floor\, and an interest in moving more easily are all you need. \nSchedule\nThree Thursdays: December 2\, 9\, and 16\, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nLocation\nOnline via Zoom \nTuition\n$75 for the three-class series. You must register by December 1. \n\nParticipants will be provided access to an audio recording of each lesson\, in case they need to miss a session or would like to refresh their experience of the lesson.\n\nRegister\n[scheduling site=”https://gikarector.as.me/breathing-holidays-12-2021″]\nDisclaimer: We assume no responsibility for personal injury or property damage sustained by or through the use of our services or participation in our lessons and workshops.
SUMMARY:A Grown-up Approach to Baby Steps
DESCRIPTION:It took us each a long time to learn to walk. Then most of us got pretty good at it\, shifting into running and jumping\, maybe even dancing. It’s easy and fun\, and we take it for granted. But every now and then\, something happens to make us reconsider how we walk. Perhaps it’s our shoes\, or our knees or toes or hips. Perhaps it’s an injury. Do you know anyone who hasn’t had some experience with difficulty in walking? \nWalking is a complex set of movements. We humans are top-heavy\, and we have to balance over two little feet. In order to walk\, we have to shift our weight onto one foot\, move the other foot forward\, land on it\, and keep on going. What we rarely consider is what happens within each foot\, with the knees\, hips\, spine\, ribs\, shoulders\, head\, and eyes. We’ve learned it all so well that we hardly have to think about it. But what if we went back to baby steps? Could we improve? Could we take some of the stress off of our tired—and sometimes achy—joints? Maybe we could improve our balance and find some of that childlike grace in movement. \nPlease join me for this November’s Thursday course\, “A Grown-up Look at Baby Steps.” We’ll explore simple movements of our feet and legs\, refreshing and improving how we propel ourselves forward. \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. Willingness to lie on the floor\, and an interest in moving more easily are all you need. \nSchedule\nThree Thursdays: November 4\, 11\, and 18\, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nLocation\nOnline via Zoom \nTuition\n$75 for the three-class series. SUMMARY:Easy Twists and Turns—Lengthening the Spine
DESCRIPTION:Photo by Utsman Media on Unsplash \nThe human spine was made to twist and turn\, allowing us to move\, explore and connect with our environment. As babies\, we have extraordinary flexibility and gradually learn to control and refine the many possibilities for maneuvering the spine. And magically\, we begin to create easier ways to sit\, stand\, walk—perhaps to dance. \nPlease join me on the first four Thursdays in September for a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement course called “Folding and Unfolding—Mobilizing the Spine.” It will surely make your body move more easily and lightly. \nIn a small-group\, online setting\, this four-week Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® course will offer a new perspective on “folding and unfolding.” \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. SUMMARY:Angel Wings—Mobilizing the Shoulder Blades and Elbows
DESCRIPTION:Angel wings—what comes to mind for you? Angelic choirs up in the clouds. Shoulder blades that stick out. Perhaps John Travolta as an earthly angel in the film Michael\, draping a trench coat over his shoulders to cover up his magnificent wings. \nI’ve been thinking about the shoulder blades and elbows and about feeling light as a feather\, moving so easily that it’s almost like flying. So our Thursday course in August is about shoulder blades and elbows. It’s pretty much impossible to move one without the other\, and when we get them moving easily\, standing\, sitting\, and walking become effortless. Our fingers and hands don’t have to work so hard. Our eyes are level with the horizon\, and that nagging pain in the neck starts to go away. \nIt’s a lot to ask from just the shoulder blades and elbows\, right? Perhaps not. If the elbows move\, the shoulder blades can’t help but move. And then the collar bones have to move\, which moves the sternum\, which moves the ribs and then the spine. It’s all connected. Hold those shoulders too tightly\, and movement gets difficult\, tiresome\, and eventually painful. So for this series\, we’ll start with moving the elbows and shoulders in surprisingly easy ways\, and watch the magic that happens when the ease begins to spread. \nPlease join me on Thursdays in August for a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement course called “Angel Wings—Mobilizing the Shoulder Blades and Elbows.” It will surely make your body move more easily and lightly. \nIn a small-group\, online setting\, this four-week Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® course will offer a new perspective on “angel wings.” \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. SUMMARY:Turning On a Dime
DESCRIPTION:Turning on a dime. Can you turn that fast? Sometimes it feels like the world is spinning pretty darn fast\, and it’s hard to keep up. Physically or metaphorically\, it seems that we’re being called to turn quickly. To step forward right now; oops\, maybe we need to go in this other direction; or should we go backwards to the “way it was”? Which is the right way to go? Is there an easy way to turn? \nAs children\, we could twirl and twirl\, and even if we got dizzy\, we just rolled onto the ground and looked up at the sky. It was fun. Now\, it’s not so fun. We start to notice that it’s not as easy as it used to be to turn to look over a shoulder\, much less look all the way behind ourselves. What’s limiting that movement? And wouldn’t it be nice to twirl around on a moment’s notice\, facing new directions and new possibilities. \nPlease join me on Thursdays in July for a Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement course called “Turning on a Dime.” We’ll explore ways to turn in any direction with greater ease and grace. It will surely make your body move more easily\, and might even make adapting to changes a little easier. (And just to change things up a bit\, and because July has an extra Thursday\, we’ll start on the second Thursday\, July 8.) \nIn a small-group\, online setting\, this four-week Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement® course will explore simple ways to turn in many directions—and perhaps twirl. \nClasses are suitable for almost all fitness levels. Willingness to lie on the floor\, and an interest in moving more easily are all you need. \nSchedule\nFour Thursdays\, July 8\, 15\, 22\, and 29\, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. U.S. Central Time \nLocation\nOnline via Zoom \nTuition\n$100 for the four-session course.
Please register by July 7. \n\nParticipants will be provided access to an audio recording of each lesson\, in case they need to miss a session or would like to refresh their experience of the lesson.\n\nRegister\n\n[scheduling site=”https://gikarector.as.me/turning-2021-07″]\n \nDisclaimer: We assume no responsibility for personal injury or property damage sustained by or through the use of our services or participation in our lessons and workshops.
