Emptiness or Spaciousness

June 3, 2024/0 Comments/in Awareness Through Movement, Feldenkrais Method, Weekly Newsletter /by Gika Rector

The article below was featured in my June 3, 2024, e‑mail newsletter. To subscribe to the newsletter, please use my contact form.

Dear Reader,

Letting go isn’t my best thing. I’m a “holder on-er.” Big time. And yet, I love the idea of spaciousness. Maybe it would be easier to let go, if the imagined result looked more like spaciousness than emptiness.

There’s something about the idea of letting go that sounds like giving up and creating a vacuum. I was in a class led by Alejandro Chaoul recently, and he talked about spaciousness versus emptiness. About breathing and opening up to a space that feels as big as the sky.

Oh my! Imagine what might happen when we clear out our doubts, our clutter, our negative ideas, and create the conditions for more possibilities, more breath, more space. Ah, such a relief, and so much more pleasure.

How do you let go into spaciousness? Does breathing help? Movement? Meditation?

Here are some of my upcoming events—and, yes, sharing these experiences surely does help me to enjoy a refreshing sense of spaciousness. I hope you’ll join me in some of these explorations.

Tuesday’s online Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is still Free Pay as You Wish.

Two in-person classes in June at the Jung Center of Houston:

How about playing with a beach ball and wool fibers? Playing with felt always feels magical to me, and one of my students even described it as “miraculous.” Making Space: Felting Around a Ball is an in-person workshop at the Jung Center of Houston. You might be surprised at how little talent it requires to create a fabulous bowl or bag or vessel. The workshop will be on Saturday afternoon, June 22.

On Saturday, June 29, you can have an in-person Feldenkrais experience. In person at the Jung Center of Houston, please join me for Finding Your Footing: a Feldenkrais Mini-retreat.

And, if you would like to work with me privately, you can Book an Appointment or reply to this email, and we’ll set up a time to connect.
